GET TO KNOW WHAT
IRIS TEEN TZEDAKAH IS ALL ABOUT

Picture
OK, so Iris Teen Tzedakah allows me to help others, but does this program also benefit me?

Yes! Your participation in Iris Teen Tzedakah will give you unique exposure to:
  • Social action through Judaism
    • Immerse yourself into the world of Jewish teen philanthropy.  Learn about Jewish solidarity and communal responsibility.
    • Take an active role in your community's welfare by deciding how to allocate significant funds to Jewish causes and projects.
    • Dive into deep discussions on Jewish values related to Tzedakah.
  • Leadership development through 21st Century Skills utilizing the Five C's of Iris:
    • Critical Thinking - Decide actual philanthropic allocations. Perform hands-on simulations. Make tough decisions.
    • Creativity - Leadership Empowerment.  Respond to thought experiments and dilemmas
    • Communication - Community Involvement.  Deliberative discussions.
    • Collaboration - Group decision making.  Fund management of a joint pool.  Team building.
    • Connection to the Jewish community
      • Discover the wealth of organizations that exist to empower, protect, and serve the Jewish community and wider world.
      • Become connected to other JTEEN-GMW opportunities, including Iris Teen Mitzvot (a continuation program exclusively for Iris Teen Tzedakah alumni).

What if I cannot attend every session? Are session in person or via Zoom?
Through the end of the 2020 calendar year all sessions will be held via Zoom. Our attendance policy is that advisors can miss at most two meetings and still graduate from the Iris Teen Tzedakah program.  Every session is incredibly in depth and builds off of the previous sessions - therefore attendance is extremely important.

Does everyone who applies get in?
Unfortunately not. We do have to turn away some applicants - mainly because we have very limited space in the program. No more than 30 applicants will be accepted for 2020-2021, so we strongly suggest applying early in order to ensure a spot.

Who runs the program?

Iris Teen Tzedakah is run by JTEEN-GMW Director Yoni Glatt and Coordinator of Jewish Service Learning Avi Remetz. Yoni and/or Avi interview every Iris candidate. They also plan and oversee each Iris meeting.
